Governor Hochul rules out surcharge for congestion pricing on Gridlock Alert days in New York City
New York Governor Kathy Hochul has decided that the MTA will not impose a 25% surcharge on congestion pricing during Gridlock Alert days. This decision reverses the MTA's earlier position, which allowed for potential increases on these high-traffic days. The MTA had previously stated it "reserves the right" to charge more on designated Gridlock Alert days. However, Hochul emphasized that New Yorkers should not face additional costs during peak congestion times. The New York City Department of Transportation identified 20 Gridlock Alert days this year, with most occurring in December. Hochul's decision aims to keep congestion pricing lower for drivers entering the city.
