Government seeks quick passage of Finance Bill this week
The government is working to pass the Finance Bill before the end of Parliament's session. This bill includes tax reliefs for individuals, which are important for citizens. Parliament cleared the demand for grants on Friday. Now, the government aims to move forward with the Finance Bill this week. Officials expect a debate over the Waqf (Amendment) Bill afterward. Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman is scheduled to present the Finance Bill on Monday. This bill outlines the financial plans for the year 2025-2026. In addition to the Finance Bill, the government plans to push for the Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill in the Rajya Sabha. This is a significant piece of legislation that includes amendments to several key banking acts. With only seven days left in the session, the government will also address other non-financial business. However, it might face strong opposition regarding the Waqf amendments. Major opposition parties, including Congress and the Trinamool, have pledged to fight against this bill.
