Gotham FC signs Geyse on loan from Manchester United
Gotham FC has announced the signing of Brazilian soccer player Geyse on loan from Manchester United. This news was confirmed as Gotham prepares for the upcoming 2025 season. The deal includes an option for Gotham to make the transfer permanent later. Geyse expressed her excitement about joining Gotham. She mentioned that she chose the team because of its strong ambition to win titles. "I can't wait to wear this jersey and enjoy the field with my new teammates," she stated. Geyse, 26, joined Manchester United from Barcelona in August 2023 for a record fee. During her time at United, she made 21 appearances and started six games this season. In January, she took compassionate leave due to the tragic death of her brother in a car accident. After returning, she played as a substitute in a match against Leicester City on March 2. In an Instagram post, Geyse shared her struggles with finding happiness in her environment. She described it as an "agonising and lonely feeling." Manchester United coach Marc Skinner supported her, stating the club was working to take care of her well-being. Geyse is joining Gotham FC as they aim to reclaim the NWSL championship. The team won the title in 2023 and reached the semi-finals in 2024, losing to the Washington Spirit in a penalty shootout.
