thejournal.ie

Firefighters in Dublin are battling a gorse fire in the Dublin Mountains, near Glencullen. The Dublin Fire Brigade responded to the blaze last night. Two fire engines stayed on the scene overnight, with firefighters from Rathfarnham and Dun Laoghaire involved. The smoke from the fire has blown into the city, reaching areas as far away as Lucan. Due to the easterly winds, the Fire Brigade advises residents in affected areas to close their windows and doors to avoid smoke inhalation. Dublin City Council's Lord Mayor, Donna Cooney, expressed her concern for wildlife and air quality. She believes there needs to be better resources for preventing such wildfires. Cooney emphasized the importance of being prepared and responding quickly when fires do occur. Paul Murphy, a member of the People Before Profit party, noted that several factors are contributing to the increase in wildfires in recent years. He stated his party will advocate for more preventative measures, especially ahead of the drier summer months.
