Google will buy fusion power from Virginia plant
Google has partnered with Commonwealth Fusion Systems (CFS) to purchase 200 megawatts of clean fusion power, marking its first commercial commitment to fusion energy. The agreement involves Google buying power from CFS's ARC plant in Virginia, expected to generate 400 megawatts of zero-carbon power in the early 2030s. Google has also increased its investment in the MIT spinoff, which has been a recipient of Google's funding since 2021. This move reflects Google's broader investment in fusion energy, including continued funding for TAE Technologies. Fusion energy aims to provide a carbon-free electricity source by fusing atomic nuclei at extremely high temperatures.
