Google plans first retail stores in India to target premium smartphone market
Google plans to open its first retail stores outside the U.S. in New Delhi and Mumbai, targeting India's premium smartphone market. This move aims to compete with Apple, which has a strong presence in the region. The new stores will be around 15,000 square feet and are expected to showcase Google products like Pixel phones and watches. Google is in advanced talks for these locations, with openings projected within six months. Currently, Google's Pixel phones hold a 2% share of India's premium market, while Apple dominates with 55%. Google has also begun manufacturing Pixel devices in India to reduce costs. Regulatory approvals are still needed before the stores can open.
