Google plans first retail stores in India to expand physical presence
Google is nearing a decision on locations for its first retail stores in India, marking its first physical presence outside the U.S. Currently, Google has only five stores in the U.S. and aims to compete with Apple in the luxury market. The stores are expected to be around 15,000 square feet and will likely open in New Delhi and Mumbai within six months. Google currently sells products through authorized retailers and is also manufacturing Pixel smartphones in India. Google faces regulatory challenges in India, including antitrust cases. The company recently experienced a leadership change in its public policy division, which is important for government relations.
