Golden Globes voters will no longer receive annual payments
The Golden Globes voting body will stop receiving annual payments of $75,000, as announced by the organization's president. This change comes during a five-year deal that began in June 2023. Each of the 50 paid voters will receive a severance of $102,500 and can choose to remain as paid voters for the next awards show. The decision was influenced by concerns over perceived bias among paid voters. The Golden Globes now has about 250 unpaid members, while other major awards like the Oscars and Emmys do not pay their voters either. The recent ceremony marked the first time in the Globes' history that a solo female hosted the event.
