Germany's spies believe COVID-19 leaked from Wuhan lab

Germany's spy agency estimates an 80-90% chance that COVID-19 leaked from the Wuhan Institute of Virology, according to reports from two newspapers. This assessment was based on intelligence operations and safety violations at the lab. The findings were shared with the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency in late 2024. The CIA has also suggested a lab origin for the virus, though it maintains low confidence in this assessment. China denies these claims, stating that the Wuhan lab did not conduct gain-of-function research and was not involved in the virus's creation or leak.
