Germany plans €12B long-range missile arsenal
Germany plans to spend nearly 12 billion euros to build a new long-range weapons arsenal, enabling the Bundeswehr to strike targets hundreds or thousands of kilometers away. The first systems are expected by 2027, with more complex weapons arriving by the mid-2030s. The four-phase plan includes buying cheaper cruise missiles, with talks underway for the Anthem missile from US-Israeli firm Covenant Industries, plus Ukrainian BARS and Flamingo systems. Berlin also seeks American Tomahawk missiles with Typhon launchers by decade's end. Two joint German-British projects will develop a cruise missile and a hypersonic glide projectile, capable of striking targets beyond 2,000 kilometers. The defense ministry describes the initial missiles as cost-effective and mass-producible.
