Millions of German drivers face higher car insurance premiums due to new vehicle classification. Around 5.9 million vehicles are now classified in higher risk categories, leading to increased costs, while 4.5 million will see lower premiums. These changes are already impacting new contracts. The new classifications, based on accident data, officially take effect for existing policies in January 2026. Most drivers, approximately 32 million, will not see their classification change.
