Genevieve Cody leads Thomas Jefferson swimmers to postseason success
Genevieve Cody, a senior swimmer at Thomas Jefferson High School, impressed everyone during the postseason swimming events. She has earned praise from her coach, Steve Larkin, for her hard work both in and out of the pool. Cody has committed to swim at Lehigh University next year. At the Class 2A finals held at the University of Pittsburgh, Cody played a key role in the girls' 200-yard freestyle relay team, which won gold with a time of 1:37.15. This team also included Wynter Olsen, Nadia Casamassa, and Shannon Chalfant. The team received high marks from their coach for their performance and teamwork. Individually, Cody achieved second place in both the 50 free and 100 free, competing against some of the fastest swimmers in the state. Other standout performances from her teammates included Chalfant and Olsen, who placed well in their respective events. The girls’ team finished seventh overall at the WPIAL championships, which Larkin described as a great achievement considering the team's smaller size. Their relay teams also ranked in the top positions, with the 200 free relay finishing third and the 400 free relay coming in sixth at the PIAA finals. In addition to Cody's accomplishments, the team broke nine school records during the WPIAL meet. Larkin expressed pride in both the girls' and boys' teams, noting the potential of their younger athletes as they look ahead to future competitions. The atmosphere in the team is strong, with close relationships formed through hard work and dedication.
