Genetic testing helped woman have healthy daughters in England
A woman with a rare genetic skin condition gave birth to two healthy daughters in England, thanks to advanced genetic testing. This service prevented the inheritance of her condition. Georgina Burrough, who has a rare skin condition called confetti ichthyosis, used pre-implantation genetic testing (PGT) to conceive. PGT, a form of in-vitro fertilization, tests embryos for genetic conditions, allowing parents to have healthy babies. The Exeter PGT service, part of the NHS, is celebrating its 50th baby born using the technology. This service offers hope to families facing genetic risks, making treatment more accessible in the southwest of England.
