Furniture Friends raised $96,000 for community furniture needs

Furniture Friends is hosting its annual Slumber Party event to raise funds and increase awareness about community members who lack essential furniture. Instead of running, participants sleep on the floor for one night to understand the struggles of those without basic items like beds. This year, supporters kicked off the Slumber Party with a pajama social at Allagash Brewing Company on March 14. They enjoyed food and drinks, bought raffle tickets, and recognized top fundraisers, including Holly MacEwan, who raised over $11,000. Furniture Friends helps people in the Greater Portland area by providing donated furniture such as beds, dressers, and chairs. Since its establishment 13 years ago, the organization has assisted over 16,000 people. In 2024 alone, they distributed more than 1,000 beds and 5,600 other furniture pieces to 900 households. Executive Director Jenn McAdoo highlighted that many of the people they help face challenges like homelessness, recovery from addiction, or escaping domestic violence. Access to furniture is crucial for creating a safe and stable environment. Most of the furniture comes from donations. Furniture Friends picks up items from residents and businesses that no longer need them. In total, the Slumber Party raised $96,000, with 39 local businesses contributing nearly $45,000.
