Friends of Snakes Society rescues over 13000 snakes in Telangana in 2024
In 2024, the Friends of Snakes Society (FOS) rescued 13,028 snakes in Telangana, a significant increase from 3,389 in 2015. This marks a four-fold rise, reflecting greater public awareness and the organization's improved capabilities. The rescued snakes included 6,186 Spectacled Cobras and 3,120 Indian Rat Snakes. Notably, FOS reported zero snakebite incidents among its volunteers, highlighting the effectiveness of their training and safety protocols. FOS is also conducting research on snake activity and habitat use in urban areas. This study aims to enhance understanding of snake ecology and improve conservation strategies in human-modified landscapes.
