Frick Collection reopens April 17 with expanded space
The Frick Collection in Manhattan is set to reopen to the public on April 17, 2025, after five years of renovation. The museum expanded its space by 10%, increasing its exhibition areas and adding modern features while preserving its classic charm. Selldorf Architects led the renovations, creating new galleries and updating older spaces to enhance the visitor experience. The beloved original galleries like the Garden Court and the West Gallery remain mostly unchanged, but there are significant improvements throughout the building. One major change is the transformation of the Music Room into the Ronald S. Lauder Exhibition Galleries. This new space replaces the smaller basement area for temporary exhibitions. The museum will also host events in a brand-new 218-seat auditorium. For the first time, the Frick's former private quarters are open to the public. These spaces have been converted into intimate galleries featuring smaller artworks. The second floor now includes a gift shop and the museum's first permanent café. During the opening, visitors can enjoy a variety of art exhibitions, including a series of porcelain flowers by artist Vladimir Kanevsky and works on paper by renowned artists like Degas and Rubens. A major exhibition featuring paintings by Johannes Vermeer will follow in the summer. The Frick Collection aims to provide a blend of its rich history and modern art experiences, welcoming back art enthusiasts and the local community.
