Former Colorado Springs activist Derrick Bernard Jr. convicted of murder and faces additional charges

Derrick Bernard Jr., a former community activist and radio DJ in Colorado Springs, was convicted of first-degree murder in November 2023. He is also indicted for allegedly staging a hate crime to support then-mayoral candidate Yemi Mobolade. Bernard co-founded the radio station "Family Flavors The Slide," which aimed to promote community engagement. However, following his legal troubles, the station has lost its programming and online presence, with its last podcast uploaded in March 2023. The station, once a hub for local political discussions and community events, has seen diminished support from former allies. Bernard plans to appeal his murder conviction while facing additional charges, including attempted murder of police officers.
