Former Cal Poly track star Shelby Daniele dies at 23

Shelby Daniele, a former track star at California Polytechnic State University, has died at the age of 23. Her death was announced by the university's athletic department on September 27, three days after she passed away. Daniele was a standout sprinter, earning six All-Big West honors and two Big West championships. She graduated this spring with a master’s degree in agriculture and was remembered as a dedicated teammate and leader. The cause of her death has not been disclosed. Daniele was also a key member of her high school team, helping them win a state championship in 2019.
