Florida courts allow execution of convicted killer Edward James
The Florida Supreme Court and a federal appeals court have denied a request to block the execution of Edward James, scheduled for March 20. He was convicted of murdering Betty Dick and her 8-year-old granddaughter, Toni Neuner, in 1993. James' attorney argued that his cognitive decline and health issues should prevent his execution. However, both courts upheld the decision that these factors do not constitute cruel and unusual punishment. James was sentenced to death in 1995 and has faced multiple legal challenges since. He would be the second inmate executed in Florida this year, following James Ford's execution in February.
