Florence officer and bystander shot during bank robbery pursuit

Two people were shot during a bank robbery pursuit in Florence, Alabama, on Tuesday afternoon. The shooting involved a police officer and a female bystander. The incident began around 3 PM on Cox Creek Parkway when a bank robbery was reported. Police quickly pursued the suspect's vehicle. They eventually cornered it at the intersection of Florence Boulevard and Rivermont Road. During the confrontation, the driver fired at the police. One officer was hit, along with the female bystander. Both were taken to North Alabama Medical Center for treatment. In response to the shooting, Florence Police have closed Highway 72 near Shoals Outdoor Sports while they investigate the incident.
