Flooding in Singapore due to poor drainage maintenance
Two recent flooding incidents in Singapore have been linked to poor drainage and lack of maintenance. The national water agency, PUB, reported these findings on March 24. The first flood occurred on March 21 in Marina Bay. Heavy rain caused water to accumulate on Central Lane 3, near the Marina Bay MRT station. PUB noted that there was inadequate drainage to handle the stormwater. The second incident took place two days later at a lift lobby on Bedok Reservoir Road. In this location, PUB discovered that debris had blocked the internal drains. PUB stated that both floods could have been avoided with proper drainage systems and timely maintenance. The agency is now collaborating with other authorities to resolve these issues.
