Five men sentenced to life for gangrape in Mhow
Five men received life sentences from a court in Mhow, Madhya Pradesh, on Monday. They were convicted for the gang rape of a woman and for attacking two Army trainee officers and their female friends. The crime took place on September 11, 2024, at Jaam Gate near Indore. The convicts are Anil Barod, Pawan Wasuniya, Ritesh Bhabhar, Rohit Girwal, and Sachin Makwana. Each of them has been ordered to pay 50,000 rupees to the survivor and 10,000 rupees to each of the other three victims. A sixth suspect, who is a minor, is facing charges in a juvenile court. According to special public prosecutor Sandhya Uike, the four victims were approached by the attackers late at night. The assailants threatened them with a gun and beat them with sticks. They demanded 10 lakh rupees and forced one Army officer and a female friend to go get the money from the Infantry School. The other officer and the woman were held captive, leading to the gang rape of one victim.
