Fighting escalates in Goma as M23 rebels intensify control and humanitarian crisis deepens

Fighting in Goma, eastern Congo, has intensified as the M23 rebel group gains control, leading to a humanitarian crisis. Over 2 million residents, including 1 million already displaced, face dire conditions with hospitals overwhelmed and essential services cut off. Aid organizations report that they cannot reach those in need due to blocked roads and closed airports. The main hospital is treating many wounded civilians, but resources are severely limited, and medical staff are also at risk from violence. As the situation worsens, some civilians are fleeing to Rwanda for safety. More than 1,000 Congolese have crossed the border since Monday, seeking refuge from the ongoing conflict.
