Exhibition of Tasmanian artist Michael McWilliams opens after nationwide search for works

A new exhibition at the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery in Launceston showcases 100 paintings by Tasmanian artist Michael McWilliams. This marks a significant achievement after a two-year nationwide search for his works, many of which are in private collections. The curatorial team faced challenges due to McWilliams' prolific output of over 2,000 paintings. They managed to locate about 90 percent of his sold works, with some remaining elusive. The exhibition runs until March 23, 2025. McWilliams expressed joy at seeing his paintings again, describing them as "lost friends." The exhibition tells a cohesive story of his career and includes a publication featuring even more of his art.
