European bison return to Limburg's Bosland National Park

European bison will be reintroduced to Limburg's Bosland National Park starting in 2027, marking their return to the wild in the region after centuries. The project involves a 500-hectare rewilding area where nature will be allowed to develop freely, creating a diverse ecosystem that includes bison and wild horses, considered "ecological engineers." These large grazers help maintain open spaces and promote biodiversity by consuming woody material and dispersing seeds, contributing to a more resilient natural environment.
