EU chief calls for new leadership in the free world
EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas stated that "the free world needs a new leader" following a heated exchange between U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump claimed Zelensky is "not ready for peace" and accused him of risking global conflict. EU leaders expressed strong support for Zelensky after the confrontation. Kallas emphasized the EU's commitment to Ukraine, while EU Commission chief Ursula Von der Leyen praised Zelensky's bravery. UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer also reaffirmed support for Ukraine. Zelensky, who did not apologize for the clash, indicated that the relationship with Trump could be repaired. The two leaders canceled plans for a minerals deal that would have provided U.S. military support in exchange for access to Ukraine's resources.
