Erode faces drinking water supply issues, DMK calls action
The leader of the DMK Erode Central district unit, Thoppu N.D. Venkatachalam, spoke with District Collector Raja Gopal Sunkara on Tuesday. He asked for help with the drinking water crisis in the Perundurai Assembly area. Venkatachalam submitted a petition about the water problems. Residents get their water from two supply schemes, but the delivery is often late. He noted that pump operators are not fulfilling their duties because they have not been paid on time. He stressed the need for the Collector to act quickly so everyone has enough water, especially with summer approaching. He also raised concerns for students in the nearby Bhavani area. Many must travel 50 kilometers to attend college, which is difficult for families who earn a daily wage. This situation is causing many students to drop out of school. He urged the government to build an arts and science college in Bhavani. Furthermore, Venkatachalam asked for proper compensation for farmers whose cattle were attacked by stray dogs throughout the district.
