A former high-ranking SSA official described the situation as creating "a fire" that they hope will require intervention. The Washington Post reports that service quality has seriously declined due to Musk's demands. Lawmakers are responding to rising frustrations from their constituents. Many people are calling their congressional offices with concerns about the future of their benefits. The AARP noted that over 2,000 retirees have made inquiries each week since February, which is double the usual number. Senator Angus King from Maine expressed his agreement with the SSA insiders. He said that the agency is being destroyed from within at an alarming rate and criticized the ongoing disruptions as "unconscionable."
