Elgin plans major improvements to Dundee Avenue starting March 2024

Elgin is set to begin major improvements on Dundee Avenue in March 2024, aimed at maintaining it as a key route between I-90 and downtown. The project will cover a stretch from Enterprise Street to Page Avenue and is expected to last until October 2026. The improvements include replacing water mains, storm sewers, and existing pavement, as well as adding sidewalks and curb ramps compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. The total funding for the project has reached $6.76 million, with significant federal support. Traffic will be rerouted during construction, with specific detours for northbound and southbound drivers. The project also includes enhancements near Larsen Middle School, such as extending the bus lane and improving street lighting.
