Edmonton police investigate 24 arsons in south-side neighborhoods since May
Edmonton police are investigating 24 arsons in six south-side neighborhoods since May. The investigation began after a fire in Strathearn and has expanded with the help of Edmonton Fire Rescue Services. Most incidents occurred earlier this year, with recent fires reported this month. The arsons targeted occupied homes, unoccupied new homes, garages, and sheds in Allendale, Belgravia, Holyrood, King Edward Park, Ritchie, and Strathearn. Police have identified several persons of interest but have not confirmed any connections to other investigations, including Project Gaslight or bitcoin extortions. Police are increasing patrols in the affected areas and encourage anyone with information to come forward. They continue to work closely with community members and local services to address the situation.
