Edina and Minnetonka hockey teams to host fundraiser for mental health initiative

Edina and Minnetonka will play a hockey doubleheader on Friday to raise funds for Sophie’s Squad, a mental health initiative honoring Sophie Wieland, a 14-year-old player who died in 2021. This event aims to support mental health awareness and grow the fan base for girls' hockey. The fundraiser will feature a goal of attracting 2,000 fans, making it a significant event for girls' hockey at Braemar Arena. Admission fees are covered by a sponsor, and there will be a puck throw with prizes. Members of the Minnesota women’s pro team will also attend. This game follows Edina's recent victory over Minnetonka in the state girls semifinals. The initiative has expanded from a local effort to fundraisers across Minnesota, reflecting a growing commitment to mental health support in the hockey community.
