DWP notifies millions of claimants as benefits transition to Universal Credit
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is sending letters to millions of benefit claimants as part of a "Managed Migration" plan. This plan will phase out Tax Credits and other legacy benefits, replacing them with Universal Credit. Claimants have three months to apply for Universal Credit before their current benefits end. The first change will occur in April when Tax Credits will be stopped. The DWP aims to notify all affected claimants by the end of this year. The DWP states that most people will receive a similar amount under Universal Credit. All legacy benefits are expected to be transitioned by March 2026.
