Duterte flies to The Hague after arrest in Manila
Former President Rodrigo Duterte has boarded a chartered flight to The Hague. He was arrested at Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport due to an arrest warrant from the International Criminal Court for alleged crimes against humanity linked to his drug war. Duterte's drug war, which took place from 2016 to 2019, reportedly resulted in at least 6,000 deaths according to government figures. However, human rights groups and the ICC estimate the death toll could be as high as 30,000, with many cases classified as extrajudicial killings. Duterte was taken to Villamor Air Base after his arrest on Tuesday morning. The situation marks a significant development in the ongoing legal actions against him.
