Duterte arrested, flown to The Hague for trial

Former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte boarded a plane to The Hague on March 11 after the International Criminal Court issued an arrest warrant for crimes against humanity. He was arrested upon arriving in Manila from Hong Kong. Duterte was detained at Villamor Airbase before his departure. His daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte, claimed he was being "forcibly" taken to The Hague and criticized the authorities' actions. The ICC has been investigating Duterte since September 2021 for alleged unlawful killings during anti-drug operations in the Philippines.
