Duterte and Dela Rosa petition SC against ICC cooperation
Former President Rodrigo Duterte and Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa have asked the Philippine Supreme Court to stop the government from cooperating with the International Criminal Court (ICC) regarding the drug war investigation. They filed a 94-page petition seeking a temporary restraining order against such cooperation. The petition argues that the ICC lacks jurisdiction since the Philippines withdrew from the Rome Statute in 2019. It requests the court to prevent the government from enforcing ICC warrants and to release individuals arrested in connection with the investigation. Duterte was arrested upon his return to Manila on the same day the petition was filed. He is currently in police custody at Villamor Airbase.
