Dutch research: Universe dies sooner than expected
New research suggests the universe's lifespan is significantly shorter than previously estimated, though still incredibly long. Dutch scientists now predict the universe will end in approximately 10 to the power of 78 years, a substantial reduction from the prior estimate of 10 to the power of 1,100 years. This calculation is based on the decay of white dwarf stars, using principles of Hawking radiation. This revised timeframe stems from studying the eventual demise of the most durable celestial bodies. The findings contribute to ongoing research into dark energy, which could influence the universe's ultimate fate, potentially leading to either continued expansion or a "Big Crunch."
