Nestor Alejandro Hernandez, 24, was sentenced to 21 years to life in prison for a DUI crash that killed 22-year-old Vanessa Urbina Aragonez in Pacific Beach on January 22, 2023. Hernandez pleaded guilty to murder and other charges. The crash occurred when Hernandez drove at 87 mph in a 25 mph zone, striking Urbina Aragonez and her boyfriend, who was seriously injured. Hernandez was on probation for a previous DUI at the time of the incident. During sentencing, the judge dismissed arguments about poor lighting and the victims' disabled vehicle. Hernandez expressed remorse, stating it was never his intention to hurt anyone.
