A Cleveland man has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge in a hit-and-run accident that killed a 7-year-old boy. Donald Mynatt, 33, was originally charged with negligent homicide but has now admitted to one count of failure to stop after an accident. The incident occurred on August 16, 2024, when Mynatt's Mercedes Benz SUV struck Amir Prewitt while he was riding his skateboard near an apartment complex. Amir later died at a local hospital. After the accident, Mynatt left the scene, according to police. During a court hearing on Thursday, Mynatt also acknowledged his involvement in other unrelated charges, including failure to comply and attempted domestic violence. His attorney, Bret Jordan, stated that Mynatt's plea was part of an agreement with prosecutors before the scheduled jury trial. Prosecutors indicated that Mynatt could face up to seven years in prison and a lifetime license suspension. They noted that after reviewing all evidence, including videos and data from the vehicle, they could not prove that Mynatt was negligent in Amir's death. Police found Mynatt's abandoned SUV the day after the accident and arrested him nearly a week later. At that time, he was also facing charges related to previous incidents. Mynatt's sentencing is set for April 10.
