Dolphins invest in offensive line by signing James Daniels
The Miami Dolphins have signed guard James Daniels to strengthen their offensive line. Daniels, who previously played for Pittsburgh, is seen as an important addition for the team. Two months ago, general manager Chris Grier recognized the need to invest more in the offensive line, and Daniels’ three-year, $24 million contract signals that commitment. Daniels, 27, has had a successful career despite struggles with injuries. He has played every snap in four of his seven NFL seasons. He is aiming to be fully healthy for the upcoming season. Daniels understands the expectations that come with his contract and the pressure to perform well. Running the ball has been a challenge for the Dolphins, especially in short-yardage situations. Grier and head coach Mike McDaniel believe that solid guard play can help improve this aspect of the game. Daniels has experience playing both left and right guard, which gives the team flexibility. There is speculation about where Daniels will play. He could either team up with rookie left tackle Patrick Paul or provide protection on the right side, depending on how the coaching staff wants to align the offensive line. Daniels said he has not been informed about his specific position yet, but expects it to be decided during training activities. Despite having an injury history, which includes an Achilles injury last season, Grier is not worried about signing players with past ailments. He believes it’s essential to secure talented players like Daniels, even if there is some risk involved.
