DepEd prohibits political activities during graduation ceremonies
The Department of Education (DepEd) has reminded schools not to hold any political activities during graduation and moving-up ceremonies. This guidance is part of Department Memorandum No. 27, issued for the 2024-2025 school year. Education Secretary Sonny Angara emphasized that all educational staff must avoid electioneering during these events. This directive follows existing policies aimed at promoting professionalism and ensuring that graduation ceremonies remain focused on education, not politics. DepEd plans to hold end-of-school-year ceremonies from April 14-15 for various grade levels, including Kindergarten, Grade 6, Grade 10, and Grade 12 students. Schools are encouraged to keep these events simple, without overspending or extravagant clothing. Additionally, no fees can be collected for the ceremonies, and schools should budget these costs from their operating expenses. Schools are advised to hold these events indoors or in shaded areas to protect students from extreme heat. In his message for the end-of-school-year rites, Angara congratulated all graduates. He highlighted the importance of values like perseverance and compassion. He reaffirmed DepEd's commitment to improving the education system and ensuring that every student has a chance to succeed.
