Dell launches affordable Inspiron 14 Plus laptop model
Dell has released the Inspiron 14 Plus (model 7441), a mid-range laptop powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon X processor. The laptop's starting price is $849.99, while the tested model costs $999.99. Its aluminum shell gives it a premium feel, and it comes with features like a touch screen and Wi-Fi 7. Though it may not be exceptional, it performs well for everyday tasks, especially if bought on sale. The Inspiron 14 Plus will eventually be renamed as part of Dell's line rebranding. The model tested has a Snapdragon X Plus processor, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB solid-state drive, with a more affordable option offering 256GB. There's potential for upgrade with different processor options and larger storage. While the Dell model is priced lower than competitors like the Acer Swift 14 AI and the HP OmniBook X 14, those models often have discounts making them more appealing. The laptop measures 0.7 inches thick and weighs 3.2 pounds, which makes it slightly heavier than some other options. The design is durable, passing military-grade tests, and features an attractive Ice Blue lid. Connectivity options are decent but limited, with a couple of USB ports and a microSD card slot. There's no HDMI output, so users may need adapters for external displays. Users can enjoy a solid audio experience thanks to its quad speakers and a touchscreen display with a resolution of 2,560 by 1,600 pixels. The keyboard is functional but lacks tactile feedback, which may hinder typing speed for some users. In terms of performance, the laptop holds its own against rivals, particularly in everyday tasks. However, it struggles in more demanding benchmarks like Cinebench. The Snapdragon X Plus processor supports some AI features, but not all Windows applications are compatible with its Arm architecture. Battery life is impressive, lasting nearly 17 hours during testing, although it runs on the lower end compared to other Snapdragon laptops. The display offers good color accuracy, though it doesn't have the same refresh rate as some competitors. Overall, the Dell Inspiron 14 Plus is suitable for casual use. It excels in entertainment aspects and offers convenient features like biometric login and strong connectivity. However, those seeking better battery life and display performance might find alternatives like the Acer Swift 14 more appealing.
