Delhi welfare funds for Scheduled Castes underutilized significantly
The Delhi government has faced criticism for underutilizing welfare funds set aside for Scheduled Castes through the Jai Bhim Mukhyamantri Pratibha Vikas Yojana. In previous years, funds allocated for education and support programs have dropped significantly, with most budgeted amounts left unspent. For example, the backup budget in 2022-23 showed an allocation of Rs 70 crore, which was revised down to just Rs 8 crore— with no money actually utilized. This trend continued in the following years with low spending and sharp decreases in allocated funds. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), previously in power, has been accused by the BJP of neglecting these communities. AAP defended its record, claiming it prioritized public welfare, leading to the highest income per capita and lowest inflation. They criticized BJP’s claims and cited procedural issues contributing to fund delays.
