Delhi allocates Rs 2 crore to revive DSFDC

timesofindia.indiatimes.com

The Delhi government has allocated ₹2 crore to revive the Delhi Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation (DSFDC). This corporation was once popular for providing loans to marginalized communities, but its condition has significantly declined. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta mentioned that many staff members at the DSFDC are currently idle with no work to do. She emphasized the need for this funding to help restore the corporation’s ability to assist those in need. Delhi's Lieutenant Governor, VK Saxena, criticized the administration for allowing DSFDC to deteriorate. He pointed out that the corporation has not been able to pay salaries to its employees since January 2024. The LG pushed the government to create a revival plan for the DSFDC earlier this year. The DSFDC traditionally provided financial support to entrepreneurs from the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Other Backward Classes, minorities, and disabled individuals. However, it now lacks its own financial resources and survives on the income from interest on fixed deposits and property rents.
