Defence forces excelled at Himachal Pradesh snow marathon
The fourth edition of the Snow Marathon took place in Himachal Pradesh, at an altitude of around 10,500 feet. This event, known as the highest marathon in the world and the only one in Asia, was held in Sissu, near the Atal Tunnel. Naik Het Ram from the Dogra Scout Regiment won the 42 km full marathon, finishing in 4 hours and 15 minutes. He was followed by Tamchor from the Ladakh Scouts in second place and OP Saran from the Indian Air Force in third. In the women's category, reigning champion Tenzin Dolma defended her title, completing the race in 4 hours and 46 minutes. The marathon had various categories including a 21 km half marathon. In this event, Nangdan won the men's race, with Namgyal and Ravikant taking second and third places. Natasha Mehar was the first in the women’s division. The 10 km race saw Stmazin claiming the top position, while Rohit and Saurabh followed. Nidhi Jha won in the women’s 10 km race. Vimal topped the 5 km race, and Priyanka won the women's category. The marathon attracted 247 runners, including members from different defense forces, professional athletes, and fitness enthusiasts. A 1 km fun run was also held for tourists and local participants. Lahaul-Spiti deputy commissioner Rahul Kumar awarded prizes to the winners and participants. A medical team from Fortis Hospital was on-site to ensure everyone's safety during the event.
