The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) is looking for seasonal employees for its summer camps. They have job openings for counselors, cooks, and Camp Aides 1 and 2. Working at a DEC camp offers a fun way to gain skills in outdoor education and leadership. Each year, DEC hires about 60 people to help run week-long programs focused on conservation education for children aged 11 to 17. This summer will mark the 78th year of the program, which includes four residential camps: Camp Colby, Camp DeBruce, Camp Pack Forest, and Camp Rushford, located in different regions of New York State. The pay for these positions ranges from $6,300 to $10,300 for the season. Employment will start in June and continue until mid-August. All employees receive room and board. In an effort to attract more candidates, DEC has updated its requirements. Now, applicants do not need to have previous experience as a camper. Interested individuals can find more information on DEC's website. To apply, candidates should send a cover letter, resume, and unofficial transcript to campemploy@dec.ny.gov.
