David Brinson accused of strangling wife during visit
A tragic incident occurred during a conjugal visit at Mule Creek State Prison in California. Stephanie Dowell, 62, was strangled to death while visiting her husband, David Brinson, a convicted quadruple murderer. The incident happened on November 13, 2024, during an overnight visit. Brinson, 54, called guards and reported that his wife had passed out. When officials arrived, they found her unresponsive. She was pronounced dead shortly after. The Amador County Coroner ruled her death a homicide, confirming that she had been strangled. There is currently an ongoing investigation by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR). So far, Brinson has not been charged with any crime related to his wife's death. Dowell's family believes he is responsible and has criticized the prison for allowing such visits without proper supervision. The CDCR explained that family visits occur in private, apartment-like facilities and are a privilege for inmates with good behavior. They state that all inmates except those convicted of sex offenses or on death row are eligible for these visits. Dowell's family, especially her son, expressed their disbelief about the safety measures in place. Stephanie Dowell was known for her generosity and was a dedicated hairstylist and small business owner. She played a critical role in supporting her family, including her elderly parents, two sons, and eight grandchildren. Her family described her as a thoughtful person who was trying to help Brinson lead a better life during their visits.
