Dangerous offender residing in Toronto poses public risk
A man labeled a dangerous offender is living in Toronto after being released from prison. Simon Gares was convicted of assault causing bodily harm in 2019 and has since been under strict supervision. He was recently in prison after breaching his long-term supervision order in 2024. As of March 14, he is in a community-based residential facility. Gares must follow several rules, including avoiding bars, not drinking alcohol, and staying away from drugs. Toronto police are alerting the public about Gares due to concerns about his risk to the community, especially children. The police can share personal information if they believe he poses a significant threat. This is not the first warning from police about Gares. He was previously released in 2015 after convictions for threats, theft, and assault. Authorities warned then about his potential to commit violent acts, including making threats regarding children's safety at schools.
