A well-known arts organization in Dallas is planning to move to a new location temporarily. The Black Academy of Arts and Letters (TBAAL) has supported many famous artists, including Erykah Badu and Regina Taylor, for over 40 years. Currently, TBAAL is located at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center complex. However, this area will undergo major renovations costing $3.7 billion. To accommodate the redevelopment, TBAAL will relocate to The Women’s Museum in Fair Park, which has not been used as a museum since 2010. Before TBAAL moves in August, the Women’s Museum will receive repairs and upgrades costing about $6.16 million. Curtis King, the founder of TBAAL, expressed optimism about the change, noting that the investment will benefit both the academy and the arts in Dallas. TBAAL will stay at the Fair Park location for about three years. There will be around 60-70 parking spots available for visitors to the museum. The State Fair of Texas will also facilitate TBAAL's use of the museum space during the fair. Once TBAAL moves out, city officials hope that other arts organizations will also use the Women’s Museum temporarily. TBAAL was founded in 1977 as the Junior Black Academy of Arts and Letters.
