Crocodile census begins in Vishwamitri River after five years
The forest department is conducting a crocodile census in the Vishwamitri River for the first time in five years. The two-day count starts today, following last year's floods that led to many crocodiles being rescued in the city. About 200 personnel will participate in the census, with teams assigned to different river sections. The Gujarat Ecological Education and Research Foundation is assisting for the first time. The last census in 2020 estimated around 275 crocodiles. Officials expect the population to have increased, as crocodiles have adapted to the polluted waters and are often seen in urban areas.
