Court released man who slapped baby in Brazil
A man who attacked a four-month-old child, mistaking it for a realistic doll, was released from custody after a court hearing. The judge determined the crime of minor bodily harm did not warrant continued detention. Filipe Martins Cruz, 36, was arrested for the assault, believing the baby was a "reborn" doll used to skip a line. The judge ordered his release with conditions, including reporting to a monitoring center and paying a fine of R$4,554. The incident occurred at a food stand when Martins slapped the child. His defense argued the act was unintentional, and the child's injuries were minor. The court is awaiting medical confirmation of the injury severity.
